A playground-and-sports classic for Summerville days outside

The layout at Gahagan Park makes it simple to plan your visit around what you actually want to do. Parents often start at the playground, where kids can climb, slide, and explore for a while without feeling crowded. When the weather is nice, the walking trail is a good option for a lap or two while the rest of the group plays.

On the athletic side, the Jerry Blackwell Sports Complex brings in everything from youth games to adult league play. Even when you’re not the one on the field, it’s a fun place to catch a game, enjoy the open space, and settle in at a nearby bench or picnic shelter. Parking is convenient, which helps on busy afternoons when multiple games are happening at the same time.

The Jerry Blackwell Sports Complex at Gahagan Park hits the sweet spot between functionality and friendly atmosphere. The fields are impressively well-maintained—lush, level, and ready for everything from casual weekend games to serious competition. Whether you’re there to play, coach, or cheer from the sidelines, the facilities set the stage for a great day. Parking? No stress. There’s plenty of it, and it’s conveniently located, making arrivals and departures smooth even during busy tournament weekends. What truly sets this complex apart, though, is its staff. Welcoming and helpful, they create an environment that feels more like a local gathering than a public facility. Need directions, field details, or just a quick conversation? You’ll find kindness at every turn. In all, Jerry Blackwell Sports Complex offers the kind of experience that keeps athletes and families coming back—clean grounds, easy access, and a community spirit that makes every visit memorable.

I love this park. There are a ton of different things to do. They have a bathroom area and it's decent. They have tire swings, two slides, an area for small kids and big kids, and even a place for parties.

Love coming here. They have baseball fields and a track that a lot of people enjoy to get a little exercise. You will also find a nice long trail running the back of the park and kids will enjoy the wonderful big playground. The playground features the biggest wood castle with bridges and cute hiding places it is secured with an all around fence to make it safe for moms to let the kids roam around. All around it’s perfect for families and everyone in between.
