This was a fun ride experience with the kids! If you have little explorers, you need to try out this trail! The wow-factor is awesome the first time you ride the trail. After the initial straight away, you ride under your first bridge with cool murals painted on the wall. The water flows quickly at this area so it gives a vibe to the atmosphere, and also great photo op! There was a mix of old and young, adults, teens, kids, walkers, bikers, scooters, and everyone was friendly. There is a station that had different types of bike locks I assume? but someone took some bolt cutters to it so those aren't available. It was fairly busy when we went in the evening, but there's plenty of space so it doesn't feel crowded. There's a large map on site at the parking lot that tells you where you are and shows an outline of the trail. The trail is paved and smooth. It runs along Sawmill branch which is a huge drainage system that presents itself as a creek. It's a steep drop down with no guard rails, but it's plenty far from the riding trail so you won't fall in unless you want to. Historically, there's remnants of an old dam from the 1700s or 1800s I can't remember. Overall fun experience! We added this to our trail list for sure!

I enjoy this place. This is a place I have been visiting for many years. There is a ton of history that can be found on this "Sawmill Branch". I won't be mentioning anything for reasons obvious, I am no historian (I am a local guide) and more importantly I rather live I'm the now, this moment, the present although it doesn't always seem to be a gift I like to think it will be at some point...

Good for 13 miles (6.5 miles out and back)...Partially scenic by the creek with Egrets and Turtles, but close to residential houses and businesses...Good amenities for a bike trail (tire pump, benches, water fountain, etc.).

Flat, paved trail. Parking area isn’t paved, and is VERY muddy when it rains. Also, the trail isn’t lit at night and I have come across vagrants hanging out (especially under the bridges). I carry mace with me to be safer. A decent enough path if you’re looking for a smooth running or biking path.

Although adventurers looking to experience a nature hike will feel this location is unfulfilling, the athletes looking for a quaint 6-mile run, bike, or dog walk will absolutely love the Sawmill Branch Canal Trail. The trek avoids traffic and intersections, is entirely paved with black asphalt. Parking at the trailhead is an unimproved dirt lot.
