Flowertown History
Summerville has carried the “Flower Town in the Pines” identity since 1925, when the local Chamber of Commerce adopted the slogan. Azalea Park grew into a centerpiece for spring bloom season, with local civic leadership and nursery support shaping the park’s plantings and long-term vision during the early 20th century.2
The festival itself began as an arts and crafts fundraiser for the Summerville Family YMCA and continues to support YMCA programs and financial assistance in the community.3
