Summerville Museum & Research Center

It all began because of the long-needle pine trees and a perfect environment. What the Indians already knew about this lush area was eventually discovered by traders from Charleston. The trees became the catalyst for what transpired over time to develop this area. The docent, Wanda, provided important details that pieced together the Summerville puzzle. This area is no longer a secret and continues to thrive and provide a great place to live. The building and property was once the town's waterworks, and provides a great story by itself. Now in the courtyard is also Saul Alexander's garden house, in which he regularly played cards with friends. Saul's legacy in Summerville is fascinating and deserves credit for his contributions to the community, and which continue because of his benevolence. Such a cute place with really wonderful and well educated team members. We've lived in Summerville for four years and visited for the first time today. I learned a lot and so did my girls (8) and (9).

We did a walking tour with one of the historians and had so much fun learning about the history of downtown Summerville. A must-do for visitors and locals!

I had no idea this museum was even here! But thanks to the Sweet Tea Trail, we made our way in and took the tour. It was really cool to hear about the history of the town and take a look at pieces of its history. There is both a guided and self-guided option. We chose to take the guided tour and it took about 30 minutes or so.

Just walked in to see if I could get a tour. My tour guide was amazing. I learned so much. Can't wait to go back.
